How to create a great profile
Now that you’ve created your account, it’s time to fill in your personal page. To do so, click on the blue button that says “Edit my Profile” on your profile page.
You now see five tabs at the top of your screen. Let’s go through each in turn:
The login details tab is where you can edit basic contact elements such as your user name (which you use to log in), email address, password and display name (the name that represents you on the website and that other users see when you post something). Make sure your display name makes it easy for people to find you and connect with you, i.e. include your full name and/or the name of your organisation or company.
It is also the place where you can add a recent picture of yourself so other users can recognise you. If you registered as a company or an organisation, you can upload your logo. Scroll to the bottom of the login details page, and go ahead! Please note that profile images must have a square dimensions on Creative Tracks, so you might have to adapt your photo. Simply click on “crop” next to the photo, select the “1:1” square ratio, then select and highlight (by clicking and dragging) the area of the original image you would like to display. Don’t forget to save your cropped image by clicking “Crop” on the right.
Next comes the about tab. This section is important: it’s your chance to communicate what you’re all about. A clear and engaging description of yourself and your projects will have a crucial impact on your success on the Creative Tracks platform.
In the first text box at the top, start by providing a short description of yourself or your company. This will appear on the author information for any blogs, news, or opportunities you post. This could be a tag line or a way to sum up what you do in one sentence. It’s a place to grab people’s attention at a first glance: think of it as an elevator pitch!
The second, larger text box allows you to develop your description by adding more detailed information. Why not talk about your background, highlight some of your achievements, present your current projects and mention what you’re passionate about! To do this you can add documents and hyperlinks, as well as image and video content via the EMBED and light box buttons. Don’t hesitate to make use of the different heading types and that are made available to you. To finish, you can add your job title and the name of your organisation below.
All this will be showcased on your personal profile page and will allow the Creative Tracks community to know who you are, what you’re doing, and what opportunities you’re looking for.
Moving on to the keywords and tags section! This one’s a crucial one too. Here you can select all the categories that apply to your interests and projects. You may also add more in the text box below if you can’t find what you’re looking for in the list. Make sure you separate each tag or keyword by a comma. All these keywords and tags will be used to drive searches for similar profiles and content on the site. The more you tag, the more people, organisations, events, and opportunities your profile will be matched with, so don’t hold back!
The contact details section is pretty straightforward: it contains information for people to contact you or your company by mail, phone, and email. Make sure you fill this all in. Additionally, you should add your social media links to signal your online presence and grow your follower base.
Finally, the privacy tab lets you choose whether or not to receive the Creative Tracks newsletter as well as email notifications. Also, you can decide to hide or display your email and phone contact details.
That’s it, well done: you’ve set up your essential profile information. You can always go back later and make changes. To access your profile easily and quickly while browsing on the website, just click on your profile picture in the top right corner of your screen.
Now you can kick start your activity on the Creative Tracks platform by posting your first status update! You could tell the community what you’re currently working on, which interesting events you’re attending this week, or call for advice on a specific challenge you’re dealing with at the moment.
Status updates are just one way to animate your profile. Beneath your profile picture, you can find the “Post Content” button. This function allows you to upload images, videos, and music to your page.
It’s also the place to publish an opportunity you’d like to share with the Creative Tracks community. This can be an award or competition, an offer for business support, a call for entries, a funding or grant opportunity, a job, and so on.
You can also advertise an event that you’re organising and to which you’d like to invite other users of the platform. This could be a fair, an awards ceremony, a launch, a performance, a screening, an advice clinic, a workshop… you name it. Make sure you include relevant tags, location and contact details so people make it to your event. Again, don’t hesitate to include pictures, videos, and hyperlinks in the description of your event to make it even more appealing.
Finally, you can also create a new Ideation Lab from there. They’re themed discussion groups that anyone can join and contribute to. They enable you to develop ideas in groups, to host a debate about a burning topic, or to reflect about challenges in any given field.
